The One Serbian Spa You Should Visit First

The Termalna Rivijera in Bogatić has become one of our absolute favourite spas in Serbia. In fact, whenever we have guests flying into Belgrade, we often take them straight from the airport to Rivijera — it’s only about an hour’s drive, and after a long train or plane journey, there’s nothing better than sinking into 38 degrees thermal water that melts the travel out of your bones. It’s become a little ritual of ours.

We first started coming here about three years ago, back when the Termalna Rivijera was much simpler. Since then, it has undergone some serious renovations, and the transformation is incredible. There are brand-new swimming pools now — bigger, cleaner, beautifully designed — along with completely updated changing rooms. The owners have also added new apartment-style accommodation on site, which makes it easy to turn a quick visit into a relaxing overnight stay. Everything feels thoughtfully designed and genuinely welcoming. The whole complex has levelled up in quality, yet it has kept that lovely “local secret” feeling. It’s still very much a place for the community, but now with the comfort and standards you’d expect from a proper wellness retreat.

Set in northwest Serbia, the Rivijera complex sits on one of Europe’s richest geothermal sites. The water comes from deep beneath the earth — around 771 metres down — and bursts to the surface at a fiery 70°C before being cooled to a perfect 36–38°C. The mineral mix is impressive too: calcium, magnesium, sodium bicarbonate, sulfur… basically everything your body didn’t know it needed. But honestly, statistics aside, what keeps me coming back is how this place feels.

A Spa Built on One of Europe’s Hottest Secrets
The Snowy Thermal Experience You’ll Never Forget

The Termalna Rivijera is open every single day of the year, but in our opinion, winter is when the real magic happens. Although it’s lovely in summer, the place transforms entirely once the temperatures drop. This is our favourite time to visit. There is nothing quite like sitting outside in steaming thermal water while everything around you is icy, still, and snowy. Your hair frosts over, your cheeks tingle, and yet your body stays cocooned in delicious heat. You know those Japanese snow monkeys you see on TV — the ones sitting in hot springs with little icicles forming on their fur and that blissed-out expression? In winter, that’s exactly what you feel like. Completely relaxed, completely warm, completely in the moment. Order a drink from the bar, lean back, watch the steam drift into the cold night air — it’s pure, serene bliss.
